A two-screen installation exploring 400 years of migration and religious persecution, from 17th-century Sephardic Jews to modern-day refugees.

Auto Da Fé (2016) is a 40-minute video installation by British-Ghanaian artist John Akomfrah, presented across two screens. Filmed on location in Barbados, the work traces eight historical migrations, beginning with the 1654 flight of Sephardic Jews from Catholic Brazil to Barbados. The film delves into themes of religious persecution and displacement, culminating in contemporary displacements from regions like Mali and Iraq. Akomfrah's poetic period drama approach offers a contemplative examination of these enduring global issues.
